At the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran announced plans to build India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera Special Investment Region, Gujarat, marking a major step in India’s high-tech industrial growth.

Tata Group, under the leadership of N Chandrasekaran, will set up a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat. The announcement was made at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries. The project aims to position India as a key player in the global semiconductor industry.

This state-of-the-art facility is expected to be India’s first AI-enabled commercial semiconductor fab, with an estimated investment of Rs 91,000 crore. The project is projected to generate thousands of direct and indirect skilled jobs, boosting local employment and strengthening India’s technology ecosystem.

The Tata semiconductor fab will focus on manufacturing advanced chips for applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs), and high-performance computing logic, catering to sectors including automotive, data storage, communications, and artificial intelligence. The facility will also incorporate next-generation automation and AI-driven factory operations to achieve industry-leading efficiency.

N Chandrasekaran emphasized that this investment is part of Tata Group’s long-term vision for high-tech industrial expansion in India. The announcement comes alongside other initiatives, such as Grew Energy’s Rs 3,800 crore solar component manufacturing unit in Dholera, reinforcing Gujarat’s status as a hub for innovation and industrial growth.
