Final location survey for 65-km Bhavnagar-Dholera railway line underway

The Railway Administration has started the final location survey for the proposed 65-km Bhavnagar–Dholera railway line, aimed at improving connectivity and boosting development in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).

Once the on-site location survey is completed, a detailed report will be prepared and submitted to the Railway Board. The Board will examine the findings, and upon approval, further steps for the project will be initiated, said Dinesh Verma, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Bhavnagar Railway Division.

Addressing a press conference at the Bhavnagar Railway Division office, Verma stated that the Railway Ministry is conducting the survey to connect Bhavnagar with Dholera through a new broad-gauge line. The railway project is expected to enhance the utilisation of Bhavnagar Port and support the rapid growth of DSIR. The survey will assess alignment feasibility, operational constraints, and other technical aspects before submission to the Railway Board for a final decision.

Verma further noted that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited Bhavnagar in August, reviewed the proposed alignment maps on-site, and directed officials to proceed with necessary actions for the rail link.

The DRM added that new train services are introduced based on passenger demand. Meanwhile, the Amreli–Khijadiya broad-gauge conversion project is nearing completion, and Amrit Bharat Station redevelopment works are underway at 15 stations in the Bhavnagar Railway Division to improve passenger amenities.

Additionally, the revival of the old Bhavnagar–Talaja–Mahuva railway line is under consideration, with the Railways evaluating various planning options to bring the route back into operation.
