Tata Electronics, PSMC Sign Deal to Build Gujarat Semiconductor Plant
Tata Electronics has partnered with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to develop a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Dholera , Gujarat, strengthening India’s push into advanced chip manufacturing.
Mumbai: Tata Electronics has signed an agreement with Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to help develop a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), Gujarat. Under the agreement, PSMC will provide the required technology and operational expertise to set up the plant.
The proposed facility will involve an investment of up to ₹91,000 crore and is expected to generate more than 20,000 jobs. The plant will have a production capacity of 50,000 wafers per month, with chips catering to sectors such as artificial intelligence, automotive, and wireless communication.
Tata Electronics has also partnered with two Taiwanese design firms to ensure that the fabrication unit meets global standards of safety, quality, and sustainability. The project is seen as a major step towards reducing India’s dependence on semiconductor imports and strengthening its position in the global technology supply chain.
