How Dholera Special Investment Region Is Positioning Itself To Become A Semiconductor Hub
With world-class infrastructure, reliable utilities, and multimodal connectivity, Dholera SIR is emerging as India’s most future-ready destination for semiconductor manufacturing and high-tech industries.
Dholera at the Core of India’s Semiconductor Vision
According to Dr. Kuldeep Arya (IAS), CEO of Dholera Industrial City Development Limited (DICDL), Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) is not just another industrial zone, but the foundation of India’s long-term semiconductor ambitions. Spread across 920 sq. km, Dholera is India’s largest greenfield industrial smart city, strategically located about 100 km southwest of Ahmedabad.
Semiconductor-Grade Water and Uninterrupted Power
One of Dholera’s biggest strengths lies in its robust utility infrastructure tailored to meet the stringent requirements of semiconductor manufacturing. The region is supported by a 50 MLD water treatment plant, along with mass balancing reservoirs and elevated service reservoirs to ensure a continuous supply of potable, high-quality water.
Power reliability is ensured through dual-source electricity supply backed by a state-of-the-art Gas Insulated Substation. In addition, Dholera is integrating renewable energy, especially solar power, into its grid to support clean and sustainable industrial growth.
Plug-and-Play Industrial Infrastructure
Dholera SIR offers ready-to-use plug-and-play industrial land parcels ranging from 1 acre to over 330 acres within its Activation Area. Out of the total 920 sq. km, nearly 110 sq. km has been earmarked exclusively for industrial development, supported by residential, commercial, and social infrastructure to enable holistic urban living.
The city features an advanced internal road network spanning over 72 km, with road widths ranging from 18 to 70 meters. Beneath this network runs a comprehensive underground utility corridor housing power, water, recycled water, natural gas, ICT infrastructure, effluent pipelines, and stormwater systems—ensuring efficiency, safety, and scalability.
World-Class Connectivity Driving Industrial Growth
Multimodal connectivity is a key pillar of Dholera’s development. The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway will reduce travel time to just one hour. A dedicated interchange will directly connect the expressway to the upcoming Dholera International Airport, enhancing global accessibility.
In addition, planned freight rail connectivity via the Bhimnath–Dholera rail line and future broad-gauge rail links will seamlessly connect Dholera to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, significantly reducing logistics costs for semiconductor and electronics manufacturers.
Building India’s Silicon Valley
With blanket environmental clearance, scalable land parcels, advanced utilities, and seamless global connectivity, Dholera SIR is positioning itself as India’s answer to global semiconductor hubs such as Taiwan’s Hsinchu. As semiconductor fabs and allied industries begin operations, Dholera is set to become a cornerstone of India’s high-tech manufacturing ecosystem.
